Lower Austria bolsters its logistics hub for an expanded Europe.
The attractiveness and success of Lower Austria as a business location also has a lot to do with its optimal transportation infrastructure. With the Danube ports Enns-Ennsdorf and Krems, Lower Austria possesses two powerful logistics hubs for the regional economy. Both ports have registered record levels of activity in the previous years as many companies in adjacent business parks exploit the logistics advantages. Climate protection issues mean that in the future the Danube waterway will gain in importance as a significant transportation channel for goods to and from southeastern Europe. For this reason, ecoplus has supported in great measure the expansion of infrastructure in both Danube ports.
With its ultramodern infrastructure, the Enns harbor has now become a top international operations and home to a highly-qualified workforce. The port area is meanwhile the largest contiguous industrial area on the Upper Danube; with its water surface area and business parks it encompasses a total of 350 hectares. The Krems harbor has also been successively expanded in the past few years with the assistance of regional support. Thanks to a special sluice gate construction, it has now been fortified against flooding. The adjacent industrial and commercial zones are extremely attractive for other firms.
With means provided by regional support, Lower Austrian airports have also become extremely vital to the regional economy. At the initiative of the internationally successful company Diamond Aircraft, the Wiener Neustadt airport was modernized and made serviceable for night flights. With Krems-Gneixendorf, Lower Austria now has yet another airfield with supraregional significance. |
