Targeted Projects for Robust Infrastructure: Regional Development in Lower Austria

Offering one-stop individual and tailored support, ecoplus initiates and guides regional initiative projects in Lower Austria: projects which are innovative and of high-quality, use regional resources most efficiently, create and sustain jobs, and provide income in the long term. Focus is on investment in economically and structurally underdeveloped regions.

Since 1987, more than 2,197 projects have received financial support of around € 978 million; investments of more than € 2.4 billion have been triggered; and around 15,000 jobs have been created in the regions.

The spectrum of initiative projects ranges from the establishment of regional innovation and technology centers to the extension of major bike paths and even to the upgrading of winter sports infrastructure and facilities. Other areas of focus in assistance and financial support include wildlife, cultural and theme parks as well as the promotion of Lower Austria as a trade fair location.

Upon Austria's accession to the EU, ecoplus was able to achieve the integration of its Regional Support Program in the then-current EU structural funds programs and thus win additional co-financing means for Lower Austria. In the last program period 2000-2006 alone, these funds amounted to around € 72 million.
