International Center for health technology
Technology focus: apheresis, inflammation, regenerative medicine, water & health
The cornerstones of Technopol Krems are formed by the Danube University Krems, the IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems, the BTZ - Biotechnology Center Krems, and the regional innovation center RIZ Nord. With focus on biomedicine, pharmaceuticals and health sciences, this Technopol has earned a reputation for exploring new avenues in these disciplines. The expansion of the Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences has provided increased momentum. This Technopol is especially attractive to research-intensive firms and institutes in medical biotechnology, thanks in part to the Technopol's purpose-built facilities, including clean room labs (with over 1,000 m² or 10,760 sq. ft of GMP-compliant space), as well as its wide range of facility management services in regard to production, certification, and implementation of R&D results in the biotech sector.
Technopol Krems encompasses two separate sites:
- Campus Krems (Karl Dorrekstrasse):
Danube University Krems, IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems, the start-up consultancy accent, the Danube Private University and the Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences
- TFZ - Technology and Research Center Krems (Magnesitstrasse) - consisting of Biotechnology Center Krems (BTZ) and Regional Innovation Center North (RIZ North)):
High-tech companies are carrying out cutting-edge research and development into innovative new products and therapies in the health and life sciences, medical technology and tissue banks. GMP-compliant laboratories for the production of biotech products are available here; in previous years 2,500 m² (26,909 sq. feet) of ultramodern lab space (of which 700 m² conform to the most stringent clean room standards) has been used for work on medical and cellular biological processes.
The ongoing development of this location as a hotbed for the life sciences is being jointly promoted with the city of Krems. Ample space and newly developed building plots have been made available: in total, around 84,000 m² (just over 904,000 sq. feet) building land was available, of which approx. 50% has already been developed.
Entrepreneurs receive assistance on site from the RIZ start-up service, while university graduates may seek assistance at accent, the Lower Austrian start-up service for graduates.
At present, more than 163 researchers and scientists work at the Technopol. Krems has become a leading hub of higher education, with approx. 12,000 students enrolled in one of the universities such as IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems, Danube University Krems, or the two private universities located here. R&D institutes and high-tech companies located at the Technopol have their pick of talented personnel thanks to the pool of highly-qualified graduates in the health and life sciences available here.
Technopols are centers of technology and business which are purposefully established in direct proximity to recognized educational and research facilities. The Lower Austria Technopol Program is pioneering in the on-site bundling of education, research and business at its available business locations, where research of international caliber is carried out and new economic momentum originates.
On-site Technopol managers support and connect when it comes to training and continuing education, research & development, and high-tech industries. They are the first point of contact for inquiries and assistance.
