The province of Lower Austria first introduced its technology policy in 2000. In this policy, research and development were viewed as precursors to a modern and cosmopolitan society. Significant measures have been taken for regional technological development: the expansion of technology centers, investment in R&D, and communication campaigns on behalf of technology. These are important pillars of the Lower Austrian "Economic Strategy 2015."
